位於森林深處有一間專門收容重度身心障礙者的療養院。曾經獲得文學獎的知名作家洋子（宮澤理惠 飾），有很長一段時間再也寫不出東西來，不得已來到這裡工作。她與丈夫昌平（小田切讓 飾），在一次意外發生後，小心翼翼地經營著兩人的婚姻生活。療養院裡的其他職員完全不把身障者當人類看待，甚至對身障者施暴作為娛樂，初來乍到的洋子都看在眼裡，但即使她向上司提出這些不人道的指控，也是石沉大海。只有跟她同名的年輕同事陽子（二階堂富美 飾）及阿聖（磯村勇斗 飾）願意聽她說話。然而阿聖對這個社會忿忿不平，在其他同事越加惡劣及粗暴的行徑之下，他心中那股不斷增強的正義感與使命感逐漸扭曲，最終引發一起撼動日本社會的事件。

Once popular novelist Dojima Yoko (Miyazawa Rie) lives frugally with her husband Shohei (Odagiri Joe), who refers to her as the "master." She starts working at a facility for the severely disabled located deep in a forest. There she meets residents who can't talk and a colleague named Sato (Isomura Hayato), and before long she witnesses other workers inflicting violence on the residents.
