This poetic documentary blends old photographs, letters, and contemporary footage to explore two parallel "Stephen" families - Virginia Woolf's and the director's own - unfolding in Hong Kong and mainland China between the 1930s and 1960s. Set against colonial rule, war, and revolution, the film quietly examines identity, empire, and memory, bridging personal history with broader political shifts to connect with audiences on both intimate and historical levels.
